Paulo Morais

Born in 1992 in Merelim S. Pedro, Braga. At the age of 6, he joined the Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian de Braga where, in 2011, he completed the High School Composition Course, as well as the 8th grade of Violin and the 3rd grade of Piano. That same year, he was accepted at Universidade do Minho where he concluded, in 2014, a Bachelor Degree in Violin, in the class of professors Eliot Lawson and Ilya Grubert. He was Artistic Director of Orfeão de Merelim from its foundation in 2012 to 2015 and chapel master of the Basilica of S. Bento da Porta Aberta between 2015 and 2018. Since 2010, he has been Artistic Director of Sinfonietta de Braga.


He attended the orchestra direction course directed by Jean-Sebastien Béreau at the Conservatoire a Rayonnement Régional de Lille (FR) as well as the Musical Phenomenology seminars with Konrad von Abel and Jordi Mora. In 2018 he completed a Master Spécialisé en Musique – Direction d’orchestre at the Conservatoire Royal de Mons (BE) under the guidance of Daniel Gazon and Jean-Pierre Deleuze with two residences where he conducted the Belgian orchestras Royal de Chambre de Wallonie and Orchester Philharmonique Royale de Liège and a dissertation guided by the composer Jean-Luc Fafchamps titled “O modernismo musical em Portugal e a busca de um idioma nacional.”
